Alex Derwick was inspired by wanting to mix contrasting styles of old Dutch painters like Hieronymus Bosch and Saturday morning cartoons from the nineties. With Girl hitting a major anniversary there was an amazing archive tracking the past 30 years. In pulling from their history and making it all come to life around this huge, weathered monument felt like the right way to celebrate the Girl milestone. And by blending both visual styles Alex was trying to recreate Girl lore as if it was depicted in a silly and deranged biblical event.
